Community Housing Network (CHN) is leading the development of a new 42-unit affordable housing community in Newberry, MI, in partnership with SMG Development, the emerging place-making developer for the project. This initiative addresses the community’s growing need for both senior and workforce housing.
The development will include one- and two-bedroom units designed to meet MSHDA Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and USDA Rural Development standards. Situated near essential services and community assets, the project will offer walkable access, energy-efficient construction, and supportive partnerships with local health and service organizations.
SMG Development is advancing the site planning, local coordination, and strategic integration with community-led revitalization efforts in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
